Preparing for the Beast from the East!

Beast from the East forecast

Are You Ready?

A good agent is always prepared for all weathers, the cold snap heading to the UK will be worse as a country we are never ready, Transport links will be compromised, panic buying will hit the shops!!

MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY!

DRIVING

  • Ensure your vehicle has all fluids and tyres at correct levels
  • If you have to travel ensure you have:
    • water, food, a thermos of hot water
    • extra clothes and blankets
    • Torch and batteries.
    • Extra screenwash.
    • Waterproofs.
    • A warm winter coat, scarf, hat, gloves and warm clothes.
    • Sturdy footwear.
  • Go mad add:
    • first aid kit
    • Shovel and rope to your kit…
    • maybe you’ll need help or you can offer assistance to others!

AT HOME

  • look out for friends and family who may be vulnerable to the cold and ensure they have access to warm food, drinks and managing to heat their homes adequately
  • try to maintain indoor temperatures to at least 18°C, particularly if you are not mobile, have long term illness or are 65 or over
  • stay tuned for weather forecasts, ensure you are stocked with food and medications in advance, have deliveries or ask a friend to help.
  • take weather into account when planning your activity over the following days
  • avoid exposing yourself to cold or icy outdoor conditions if you are at a higher risk of cold related illness or falls
  • discuss with friends and neighbours about clearing snow and ice from in front of your house and public walkways nearby, if unable to do so yourself

Use common sense in this cold snap, we Brits are very blasé when it comes to bad weather, and we like to blame the local services for not being prepared when really we should be enjoying a snow day!

  1. Bake a batch of cookies.
  2. Sit by the fire or cuddle up in a warm blanket with a book and a nice warm drink or a Hot Toddy!
  3. Throw in a movie or catch up on a series you’ve been wanting to see.
  4. Walk to the nearest Pub/restaurant for brunch and a cheeky few beers.
  5. Invite friends over! Let each others kids wear each other out!

And if it really has snowed, you can fully indulge:

  1.  Bundle up and take a stroll in the snow with a nice log fired toasty pub at the halfway point.
  2.  Find the nearest steep hill or closed street and go sledding. If you don’t have a sled you can create an easy make-shift one.
  3. ENJOY TIME OFF IN THE SNOW WITH YOUR KIDS!
